Hungarian politician and mayor of a town Hódmezővásárhely Péter Márki-Zay has won the opposition race against current PM Viktor Orbán in the 17th of October 2021.
The opponent race was the second round when he has beaten his left-wing opponent liberal social democrat Klára Dobrev. With nearly 98% of votes counted, Márki-Zay led by more than 13 percent.
This mean that he became the president-elect against Viktor Orban in Spring 2022. The positivity and hope for a change is huge among Hungarian residents, since Péter Márki-Zay is coming from a self-proclaimed  conservative, Christian family but in parallel he is open to certain liberal views and values as well. Therefore he can unite both the left and right supporters and 6 other major opponent political parties during his campaign and his possible government after a successful final election.
This editorial is about the most memorable moments from the final night of the opponent race how Péter Márki-Zay has celebrated his win as the official president-elect with his wife and children, left-wing political allies including mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony, politician Anna Orosz and Márki-Zay's chief campaign manager Ákos Gurzó among many supporters during this historic event in the Centre of Budapest.
